UPDATE: Power Restored to Most Consumers Energy Customers
Now to the latest on last night's massive power outage that happened when a car hit a utility poll.
We started the morning with about 1600 Consumers Energy customers without power in the Potterville-Charlotte area.
Now Consumers has updated that number. They say only 173 customers are without power, most of those customers are in the Charlotte area. To recap the night here, around 1400 customers in the Dimondale area had power restored by 6:30 am.
Another 4000 people were without power last night in Charlotte. It was only out for around 2 hours in that area, which included downtown Charlotte. Consumers Energy initially reported that power would return for the remaining customers by 3 AM, but then changed that estimate to 6 AM, then 7.
The car accident that caused the outage was on Island highway near I-96. We were in Charlotte last night when the power came back on, and people there told us it was a huge relief. Consumers Energy told us power should be back for those remaining 173 customers by 7:30.
An accident on Island Highway near I-69 around 8 p.m. Wednesday night knocked out power to parts of Charlotte, Potterville and Dimondale. We learned a car hit a power pole, which caused the outage.
Consumers Energy tells us that 7,731 customers total were without power. Approximately 4,000 in Charlotte got it back around 10:30 p.m. Consumer's crews were working to get power back for Potterville by 6 a.m.
