Update: Investigation Indicates Father Accidentally Shot Son

A preliminary police investigation indicates that the father of accidentally shot his two-year-old son in Lansing Wednesday evening.
The toddler is hospitalized Thursday morning, and his condition has been upgraded to critical, but stable. He has a gunshot wound to his midsection. The child's 29-year-old father has a gunshot wound to the hand, and he is in stable condition.
Police say they continue to investigate what led to the discharge of the handgun. Once their investigation is completed a report will be sent to the prosecutor's office for review of any possible criminal charges. Police were called to the apartments in the 900 block of Long Boulevard at about 7 o'clock Wednesday.
A two-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was shot Wednesday night in a south-side apartment complex.
Police say a woman called them hysterically at 7 p.m., reporting a man and her two-year-old child had been shot.
The Lansing police and fire departments rushed to the Oak Park Village complex at 900 block of Long Blvd., where they transported the two to a local hospital.
The boy was undergoing surgery for life-threatening injuries, said LPD Capt. Daryl Green. The man is expected to recover.
"Obviously we're praying for the family of this child and hopefully this child will make a speedy recovery," said Green. "Obviously a two-year-old child, this is concerning to all of us, life-threatening injuries, so all of our officers in the area respond as quickly as possible."
Police say they're not sure who fired the gun, but cautiously say it was possibly accidental.
