Some church-goers were on all fours Sunday morning, during the annual Blessing of the Beasts at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Lansing.
They were blessed with holy water, and some people brought pictures of their pets if they were unable to bring them to the service.
Pastor Karen Lewis explained: "It's cuz they love them. They're family members, they're God's children. And with the relationships thay have with these wonderful pets that are there when they're happy, when they're so sad, and they need someone to love. Pets love us unconditionally, and so we celebrate that."
The tradition of the Blessing of the Beasts goes back to Saint Francis of Assisi nearly 800 years ago. He said that humans are just one of God's creations, and that all are blessed.
