MI Representative to Introduce No Smoking in Vehicles Bill
State Representative Sam Singh.
LANSING – State Representative Sam Singh (D-East Lansing) announced a new bill on October 23 to limit the use of tobacco products in motor vehicles. The bill would make it illegal to light a tobacco product in a vehicle when someone under the age of 18 is in the vehicle.
According to the bill, a violation of the law would result in a $500 fine; but there would be a one year grace period, to give the public time to get used to it.
“Nothing should be off the table when it comes to a child's well-being," Singh said. "This is simple, common sense legislation that works to promote the health and safety of minors in Michigan.”
