Lansing Man Convicted of Murder as a Minor Given Positive Status Report

By FOX 47 News. CREATED Apr 16, 2014

A Lansing teen convicted of murder is making a good impression while serving his time.

Charles Lewis, Jr. was in court for his six-month check-up Tuesday. Staff at the Maxey Boys Training School had a lot of positive things to say about Lewis, calling him a leader and sincere.

Lewis is locked up for Shayla Johnson's 2010 murder.

Judge George Economy says he's pleased with Lewis' progress and hopes he continues on that path.

"Do you still have a long road to haul? Probably," the judge said to Lewis. "They're all telling me you do, that there's more mountains to climb. It wasn't going to be easy, you knew that, but you keep doing what you're doing because you're headed in the right direction."

Lewis will be back in court for another check-up in October. He'll either be released or sent to prison for the rest of his life when he turns 21 in October.
