Jackson College's Campus View Doubling Up Rooms Due to High Demand

With more than 500 applications for on-campus housing, many Campus View residents are doubling up this fall. Jackson College welcomed residents of Campus View 1& 2 residence halls to campus this week, in preparation for the 2013-14 academic year.
Campus View typically has offered space for 192 residents, with 48 four-bedroom units between the two buildings. With increased demand this year, many rooms – which have previously been private – are doubling up. Campus View has a potential of housing 288 students this fall semester.
“We have 500 applications, and we are getting more,” said Director of Residence Life Maximo Anguiano. “We are still accepting students for late registration and later-starting classes.”
A variety of Welcome Week activities are planned for Campus View and all JC students, starting with an opening night ice breaker tonight, followed by Campus View resident orientation Friday. Welcome Week activities also include a bowling night Friday, a campus scavenger hunt Saturday, Student Life Fair Sunday evening, and activities on Central Campus Monday-Wednesday.
Student Jeantrice Carter of Detroit will be starting her first year at Jackson College, and the availability of residence halls was a big draw. “I really liked the dorms, the College has a nursing program that I’m interested in, and the campus looks really nice. I like it all,” Carter said.
Kate Masell from Benzie County is starting her third year at JC. She is studying cardiac sonography and works as a desk aide. “I love the privacy, the space, atmosphere, and everyone is really nice. It’s also nice to be right on campus, with easy access to the gym, to classes, and the library.”
