From survivors, to fighters to those who have been taken, we all care about someone affected by Cancer.
During the week of September 15 to 20, the Ionia Chamber of Commerce hosted "Community Awareness Week" to raise funds and to show their continuing support for those affected by cancer. Ionia painted the town purple--from purple banners to purple ribbons to purple t-shirts to the "Purple Run"--the community offered many opportunities for people to get involved.
"Purple Week" ended on September 20th with a special ceremony at the football game. Before the game on Friday, Ionia High School Cross Country Coach, Christopher Young, announced that the cross country team would be running relay style from DeWitt High School to Ionia High School to carry the ball for that night's football game. This 47 mile relay-run was done in honor of those who have given, and to those who have survived.
"We run to remember. Winning races is cool, but this is much bigger; it is a lesson in life," said Coach Young.
