FOX 47 News
The HopCat of East Lansing opens for business Thursday, hoping to break a Guinness record by putting 100 beers on tap.
The bar will put 100 different beers from Short's Brewing Company when it opens at 11 a.m., including Mr. Biscuits, Lil Wheezy, Stray Cat Street Fighting, Yer My Boy Blue and MMMKAY.
"Short's has put together some fantastic experimental beers that may only be available here in East Lansing for possibly a few hours," said Mark Seller's, owner, HopCat - East Lansing and BarFly Ventures. "We wanted to give all of those who plan to join us a chance to do a little advance research so they can plan which beers they'd like try once the doors open."
Once some of the very limited-run Short's brews run out, the tap line will be kept open for the remainder of the day. By closing time at 2 a.m., it is possible there won't be any beer left on tap. However, Short's may have a few surprise additions to tap.
All HopCat customers on opening day will enjoy a free order of HopCat's famous Crack Fries with the first 200 guests receiving a free order of crack fries every week for a year.
HopCat is located at 300 Grove Street in downtown East Lansing.
The previous record for the number of beers on tap is 71, set by Sierra Nevada at a California brewery last year.
