Free Comic Book Day at Clem's Comics & Games
Lansing, MI - Clem’s Comics & Games in Downtown Lansing will join the thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating the comic book art form. Saturday, May 3rd is Free Comic Book Day, when over 2.7 million comic books will be given away by participating stores, introducing people of all ages to the wonders of comic books!
“The wide array of comic books being published today ensures that readers of all ages — children, teens, and adults – can find something appropriate that will stir their imaginations,” said Alec Davis, manager of Clem’s Comics & Games. “Even if you have never picked up a comic book, stop into Clem’s on Saturday, May 3, because you never know what you will end up finding! There’s some great stuff this year, including a couple of different Marvel titles that will energize fans for this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie, a Transformers & GI Joe mash-up issue, and an issue from DC Comics that will kick-start a weekly series that will run for the next year!”
Celebrating its twelfth year, Free Comic Book Day has proven to be a smashing success, sharing the value of comics as terrific reading material.
“Our attendance at this event has just exploded exponentially each year”, said Tom Flammer, a supervisor with Clem’s Comics & Games. “We keep thinking that we can’t possibly get any more people in the door for this event every year, and every year we continue to be surprised at the enormous numbers of people who stop in for free comics!”
Free Comic Book Day at Clem’s has grown so much over the years, that they have partnered with their neighboring downtown business to allow for more visitors. “We just ran out of room in our current location”, says Flammer. “We asked the owners of Downtown Subs & New York Burrito next door if we could make it a combined event to allow for more customers at both of our businesses, and they now offer specials to those who come in for the free comic book event. We usually have additional items to give away from Celebration Cinemas and the Capital Area District Library.”
And there aren’t just free comic books being given away. “We’ll have artists on hand to sketch for the customers, and show off their work. This year we’re inviting any of our customers to try out in our costume contest – just show up to the store in costume and you’ll be entered to win some great prizes. There are going to be some professional costumed performers here as well. We also have a game booth this year so that customers can win even more free stuff. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Last year we gave out over 2,000 comic books – and we’ve ordered even more to give away this year.”
