FOX 47 News
Lansing, MI -- The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA), in cooperation with the Lansing Area Safety Council, will once again offer curb-to-curb transportation on New Year’s Eve.
“CATA is committed to providing safe transportation on New Year’s Eve,” stated CATA’s CEO/Executive Director Sandy Draggoo. “The Safe Ride Home program has served the community for more than 25 years. We hope people will continue to take advantage of this service to help make our roads safer for everyone.” CATA’s Safe Ride Home program averages approximately 250 rides each year.
Those desiring a ride home should call CATA at (517) 394-CATA (2282) between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. Passengers will be picked up and taken home between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. on a first-come-first-served basis. Safe Ride Home buses travel as far north as Sheridan Road to Dobie Road on the east, Holt Road on the south and Waverly Road on the west. The regular CATA fare of $1.25 will apply to this service with discounted 60-cent fares for students, seniors, anyone showing a Medicare card, and persons with disabilities. EXACT CASH FARES ARE REQUIRED as CATA operators cannot make change.
Holiday Service Hours: On New Year’s Eve, CATA services will end early. Buses will depart for their last trip no later than 6:15 p.m. All route-by-route final departure times are published at cata.org. Spec-Tran will schedule pickups only until 6:15 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. CATA will be closed on New Year’s Day, however, the Spec-Tran office will remain open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to schedule rides that occur after Jan. 1. Calls will be taken at (517) 394-CATA.
All CATA services will resume on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014. To stay up-to-date on any service disruptions, CATA urges customers to subscribe to text/email alerts at bit.ly/rideralerts or check bit.ly/snowroutedetours for detours that may affect their routes.
