Both the House and Senate have introduced legislation that would ban local governments from requiring employers to provide paid or unpaid leave, but hundreds of people around the state aren't on board with that plan. They delivered 25-hundred signatures to the State Capitol Tuesday. They believe the bill wouldn't save the state as much money as lawmakers think.
"We know that paid sick days save money for corporations, and also saves the community the sickness from going around. When we offer our workers better workplace policies, they want to stay here, they want to live here, we want to make Michigan a place that workers want to stay in."
While no local governments are considering such policies right now, lawmakers say it's already happening in other states and so legislation should be put in place now.
