FOX 47 News
The inaugural SPARTANS WILL. POWER Global Day of Service is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2013. On this day, Michigan State University alumni clubs, groups and student organizations will be working together with Spartan alumni, students, faculty and staff on more than 80 projects that will make a difference in their communities.
SPARTANS WILL. POWER Global Day of Service projects are organized on the service day website, conveniently listed by region. Projects taking place in the “Michigan” region are listed by the city in which the project is taking place. In regions other than Michigan, projects are listed by state and then city. Project details are given, as well as how many volunteer spaces remain. Examples of projects include:
In the “Northeast” region, the MSU Alumni Club of Western New York is providing sack lunches to the Buffalo City Mission’s Cornerstone Manor. Spartans are encouraged to donate lunch items, assemble the lunches, or assist in delivering lunches to Cornerstone Manor.
In the “South” region, the Greater Fort Myers Area MSU Alumni Club is hosting a project at the Salvation Army of Lee County. Spartans will be assisting with multiple projects at the Salvation Army’s residential facility which houses residents of abuse, those who need temporary housing, or those recovering from addiction.
In the “West” region, the Las Vegas Spartans have organized an event at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. Spartans will work in the Mission’s dining hall serving lunch to residents, help prepare dinner for that evening and assist in a spring cleanup within the grounds of the Mission.
The SPARTANS WILL. POWER Global Day of Service is a partnership between Michigan State University and the Michigan State University Alumni Association. Spartan students, faculty, staff, and alumni have risen to the challenge to help change the world and are doing just that as volunteers within their communities. To harness the power of this spirit of service, the inaugural SPARTANS WILL. POWER Global Day of Service will celebrate the ongoing service by individuals and local alumni clubs, and serve as a catalyst for new service commitments.
