Update: Bomb Scare at National Guard HQ Unfounded

CREATED Mar. 26, 2013 - UPDATED: Mar. 27, 2013

A bomb scare at the Michigan National Guard Headquarters shut down a large portion of north Lansing Tuesday morning.

Several blocks around the National Guard facility located on MLK Blvd. between Sheridan Road and Grand River Avenue were closed off shortly after 8 o'clock when a report came in of a suspicious box at the Department of Military and Veteran's Affairs building.

Lansing Police say a bomb-sniffing dog indicated there may be explosives in what Lansing police describe as a tool box. The state police bomb squad continued their work to secure the box. Lansing police say the bomb squad soon determined that there was no explosive, and no danger. As this was happening, roads in all directions around the area were closed. People coming to work were told they could not cross the road blocks. Roads began opening up again after 9 o'clock.
