Update: Fire Destroys Home in Lansing

A house at N. Walnut and Madison Ave, north of downtown Lansing, is being called a complete loss after catching fire Tuesday morning.
The fire was called in just before 9 a.m. and was contained just before 10:30 a.m. Firefighters initially went inside the structure to try to put out the fire, but quickly had to move into a defensive mode because numerous items in the home made it too difficult to navigate through safely.
The Lansing Fire Department is still determining the cause of the fire, but the department tells us the house will be torn down to help put out any remaining hot spots.
Residents were removed safely from a fire at a two-story home in Lansing, located near N. Walnut and W. Madison Avenue.
Crews are fighting the fire from the outside and will be on the scene for most of the day.
The fire broke out around 9:00AM and several fire trucks responded.
