70 percent of seniors now have smart phones, but many of them don't understand -- or use -- a number of the features.
A workshop in East Lansing is trying to help with that. AT&T employees gave seniors one-on-one training to explain everything from text messaging to surfing the web.
"Some seniors just use their phone as a phone, and that's ok," says Robert Kolt, President of the Michigan AARP. "But if you connect to the internet and text and communicate with your children and grandchildren, it opens up a whole new world for seniors."
He also suggests that seniors, or anyone else buying a cell phone, have an employee explain the phone's features before leaving the store.
