First Fridays Introduces 'Check-in Challenge' to Explore Greater Lansing
Just when you thought you couldn't possibly have any more fun, Lansing First Fridays introduces 'Check-in Challenge' – a GPS-based scavenger hunt for students, residents and visitors. The challenge kicks off Friday, Oct. 5, at 8 a.m., and features participating cultural, retail and restaurant locations. Challengers will have until 2 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, to check in and earn points for a chance to win prizes.
The challenge is open to anyone who lives, works, goes to school or travels in the Greater Lansing area. GPS-enabled Droid and iPhones are required to check in at specified locations, and 100 points will be awarded at each location visited: Arts & Cultural venues, Retailers/events, Restaurants.
Once all participants' scores are submitted and tallied, prizes for the first-, second- and third-place winners will be awarded to the top-three participants based on total points earned. Prizes include opening night tickets at Wharton Center for ANYTHING GOES (October 16) plus ANYTHING GOES CD and an iTunes gift card; Spa and dinner package from Coterie Purlieu and Grand Traverse Pie Company, and 3-31 day CATA bus passes.
The Check-in Challenge is powered by the First Friday’s movement and partnering pointi.org to help players familiarize themselves with all that Greater Lansing offers. To participate, download to your smart phone the Pointillism app by Capitol Collective from Google Play or the iTunes App Store; sign up and choose Check-In Challenge from the Available Hunts list.
The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) offers free public transportation on the first Friday of each month, thanks to our generous underwriters, Team Lansing Foundation and MSU Federal Credit Union. There's no cost on First Fridays to participate or ride the Entertainment Express beginning at 5:30 p.m. and system-wide from 7 p.m. until the end of regular service.
