More Construction Plans for US-127

Summer construction on northbound US-127 was a success: "Everyone we've heard from so far since it's been opened has been pleased having that additional lane between the I-496 ramp and M-43," said MDOT Spokesperson Kari Arend.
So next summer, begins part two.
"We will be adding auxiliary lanes in basically the same location along US-127. It'll be between Lake Lansing road and Grand River, and then essentially Saginaw street and the I-496 ramps."
Except this time, there will be another big change happening sometime after construction begins. The existing noise wall on the east side of US-127 from Lake Lansing road to about a quarter mile south, will extend all the way to Saginaw st.
Noise walls are proposed to be on both sides of US-127, and they can't come soon enough for Raymond Perez whose apartment is located just a few yards from the freeway.
"I think it's a good idea. It gives more people incentive to move into the neighborhood, more quiet," said Perez.
To make sure the rest of the neighborhood is as excited about adding the noise walls as Perez, MDOT is holding a meeting next Wednesday when everyone can share what they think.
"We will have comment sheets available. No formal presentation, just informal. Show up whenever you can," said Arend.
If there is not a lot of negative feedback, construction will begin on the noise wall, most likely in 2014.
That meeting will be in the gym of Pinecrest Elementary Wednesday, Sept. 19, 4-7 p.m.
