Two Die in Michigan from West Nile Virus

CREATED Aug. 23, 2012

There are now 41 reported cases of West Nile Virus in Michigan, including two deaths, according to the state Department of Community Health.

The majority of cases are in Kent and Wayne counties.

There are two cases in mid-Michigan; one in Ingham County, and one in Livingston County.

Also, 22 other people have carried the West Nile Virus in their system, and learned of this while donating blood at blood drives.

The state does not include these in its numbers because these people did not get ill from the virus.

Angela Minicuci at the community health department says only 1 of every 5 people who get the virus actually get sick from it.
