By this time next week, a busy stretch of road in Jackson could be open to traffic--- about two weeks ahead of schedule.
West Avenue got its final paving Wednesday afternoon. All that's left for the contractor to do is mark the pavement, put up signs and restart the traffic signals.
There are still several aspects of the project that aren't finished, like the Oakhill cul-de-sac, but lane closures won't be necessary to get them done.
MDOT says short term lane shifts will be needed through the end of the project, but one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction.
The entire project should be finished by October 15.
