Mid-Michigan's Favorite Ice Cream Spot: The Daily Scoop

CREATED Jun. 20, 2012 - UPDATED: Jun. 21, 2012

We've got the scoop - The Daily Scoop in Mason has beaten the local competition to be named Mid-Michigan's Favorite Ice Cream Spot in a FOX47News.com poll.

For the first official day of summer, we visited The Daily Scoop to speak with owner Shawn Sodman to talk to him about his store and what makes it stand out.

In the final stretch of the voting process, Sodman alerted voters on The Daily Scoop's Facebook Page that he would be donating one dollar per new vote to the American Cancer Society.

It's safe to say that generosity of spirit is was helped push The Daily Scoop to the top, and Sodman has decided to donate a dollar for each vote they received, meaning the American Cancer Society will be receiving a check for $500.

Sodman opened The Daily Scoop about a year and a half ago, in the spot where Turtle Tom's was previously located.

The Daily Scoop became the first ice cream store to sell MSU Dairy Store ice cream since the 1970s, thanks to the lobbying efforts of the Mason community and John Engstrom from the MSU Dairy Store.

The newspaper theme is helped in large part by framed news prints from Rodney Jewett and the geneological society, which enhance the feeling of nostalgia and small town pride. The prints are rotated four times a year, and Sodman frequently holds events in The Daily Scoop where proceeds go to the geneological society.

The Daily Scoop's best sellers are Buckeye Blitz and Dantonio Double Fudge Fake, and on a warm evening one can expect a line out the door of eager ice cream lovers.

If you're looking for an ice cream spot with a lot of heart, local pride and yummy frozen treats, look no further than The Daily Scoop Ice Cream Shoppe in Mason, Michigan - winner of our FOX47News.com poll.

Many thanks to owner Shawn Sodman, and his staff Holly Reed, Monica Moul, and Mason Salmon.

The Daily Scoop is located at 350 South Jefferson Street, Mason, Michigan.
