You're looking at the couple who had hundreds of dogs seized from their home this week. Breeders George and Cheri Burke are each facing a felony count of animal abandonment and cruelty to ten dogs or more.
Authorities took more than 350 small breed dogs from the Burke's home and barn in Allegan County Tuesday. They were found caked in their own filth, most with fleas and heartworm.
Several of the female dogs were also pregnant. About 30 pups have been born in the group since then.
Investigators say the Burkes did not have a state-issued kennel license or an active dog license.
More than a dozen of the dogs were taken in by the Capital Area Humane Society. Workers there have been treating them and getting the dogs read to go to new homes next week.
CAHS is asking anyone who wants to help out to donate canned dog food - Science Diet Small Bites dry food - and bleach. The Ingham County Animal Shelter also took in some of the dogs, and the Cascades Humane Society in Jackson is expected to do the same in the next couple days.
But with pricey medical treatments, shelters are really struggling to cover them. That's where you come in. You can make a monetary donation to the shelter in Allegan. We've put up a link on our FOX 47 Facebook page.
