Spartans Win 65-52, Advance to Title Game

CREATED Mar. 10, 2012

The Spartans beat Wisconsin Saturday, 65-52 in the semifinals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.  Michigan State will play in the Big Ten Tournament championship game for the first time since 2000.

The Spartans will play in Sunday’s final against the winner of today’s game between Michigan Ohio State.
Austin Thornton scored 12 points. Draymond Green had 14 points and 16 rebounds, but turnovers were a problem.

Keith Appling had 13 points and five assists for the Spartans. Brandon Wood and Derrick Nix both scored 9 points each.

Izzo's Spartan team is in position to go after a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, according to analyst Jerry Palm. Kansas’ loss to Baylor in the Big 12 Tournament semifinals may open the door for MSU if it can win the championship.
