Update: Power Restored to Most in Mid-Michigan
HASLETT - Power has been restored to customers in the East Lansing and Haslett area. Over 7,000 Consumer Energy customers lost power in the early morning hours. High wind knocked a ground wire into an energized wire near the intersection of Saginaw Street and Abbot Road in East Lansing. That caused the power loss at the Lake Lansing, Red Cedar and Meridian substations. Power was lost from approximately 4:10am until 6:35am. Murphy Elementary School in Haslett closed for the day as a result of the power outage.
High winds caused power outages around mid-Michigan. 1,200 customers lost power in Clinton County. 780 customers lost power in Jackson County. Power has since been restored to most customers.
Thousands are in the dark at this hour right now. Consumers Energy tells us there are power outages in Ingham, Clinton, and Eaton County due to the high winds this morning.
In Ingham County, there are 6,900 customers waiting for the lights to come on. There are 1,200 in Clinton County, and 90 in Eaton County.
Consumers tell us crews have restored power to customers in Jackson who lost it. No word yet on when the power in the other counties will be back on.
