A California couple celebrated a very special anniversary last week: Harold and Edna Owings got married 80 years ago.
The Owings have so much to be thankful for: she's 99, he's 100 and on Thanksgiving, they celebrated 80 years of marriage surrounded by family.
"We've had a wonderful life. We've had a storybook life, really," says Edna.
The secret to their happy marriage?
"Honey, I never remember having an argument with her and it lasting overnight. Never once, because I always believed that I had a right to my opinion, and she had a right to hers. And if we couldn't settle it that way, we'd just let it go and eventually it'd settle itself," says Harold.
Edna adds, "Because we wouldn't be human if we didn't get aggravated at one another."
But you could say it was love at first sight - he was her boyfriend in the fifth grade, and brought her a candy bar every day.
"He was allowed - his folks gave him permission to stop and buy candy bars any time he'd want to on the way to school. So there would be a candy bar on my desk every day, but if he thought I was mad at him, there'd be two candy bars on my desk."
A sense of humor and a love of family, card games and Vegas has kept them going.
"We do manage to play some of the penny machines, but he'll be walking along beside me and I say, 'Harold straighten up, they'll think you're an old man!'"
Remember, she's only 99. Happy anniversary Edna and Harold -- 80 years strong.
"I feel like God must have put us together, because we just belong together," says Edna.
