'Laura' Statue Returned, Thief Identified

She's at the police station right now, but it won't be long before "Laura" will be returned to her rightful spot in downtown East Lansing.

The statue, valued at fifty-thousand dollars, was dropped off at the station on Friday after she was reported missing on Thursday.

Police tell us a couple guys who found it outside the apartments on Evergreen Avenue were the ones to return it.

"I’m hoping with this particular incident though that the people that are doing this will realize how quickly we can get them back and how important they are to the community," said Ami Van Antwerp, Communications Coordinator for East Lansing. "I hope this deters anyone from doing this in the future as well."

The city is now looking for additional ways to secure the sculpture. Police have identified the person who originally stole it and are working on charges.
