East Lansing Culinary Olympics
East Lansing, MI (3/20/2014) – The Willows at East Lansing is pleased to announce that Chef Caleb Brown, campus chef, and Nick Larabee, member of our dining staff, won the Bronze award in the Divisional Culinary Olympics held in East Lansing on March 20th, 2013. Seven campuses participated in the Michigan Divisional Competition. Each team had the opportunity to plan their own signature menu composed of a salad, entree and dessert which was judged by a volunteer panel to select gold, silver and bronze team medalists. Additional awards were presented for each category: Salad, Entree and Dessert as well as the overall winner based on the combined scores. Criteria for judging included use and application of fresh, seasonal ingredients, plate presentation, portion control and nutritional value. Special recognition was awarded for table decor, testing each team’s ability to assemble a memorable place setting.
Additionally, honors were given to the team that crafted the most original menu featuring selections that represent local flair and Resident-First menu preferences. The judging panel was comprised of: Kelly Arndt, East Lansing Prime Time Director, Evan Winters, Publisher/Area Director of The Hills, Chef Jason Blastic from Soup Spoon Café, and Bryan Vaughn from Gordon Food Service.
