A North Carolina mother recently found an unsettling symbol grilled into the bun of her chicken sandwich after ordering at a local McDonald's drive-thru in Morehead City.
Charleigh Matice, the granddaughter of a World War II veteran, opened her sandwich to add mayonnaise and noticed a swastika design made on the roll with butter.
"Many people died because of that symbol and it’s not something that should be taken lightly. It’s not something that should be thrown around," Matice explains to local outlet, WCTI 12. "Is this a joke? Does somebody really think they're funny?"
Matice returned the sandwich and was issued her a full refund. McDonald's has since fired the employee responsible.
Dulcy Purcell, the McDonald's franchise owner/operator of the Morehead City location, says in a statement: “We are very sorry for the service that our customers received, and to be clear we have terminated the employee who was involved. We do not tolerate that kind of behavior at McDonald's, and it's not what we stand for personally as owners. It is about providing the best level of service and care to our customers, and anything less than that is unacceptable to us."
